Cholesterol: Cholesterol is a natural occurring fat, or lipid, that is important to cell structure and is used to make some classes of hormones. Cholesterol is made by our body and derived from the food we eat. Cholesterol are fats in the blood that cause fatty plaques to deposit on the walls of the arteries which can lead to heart attack or stroke. Cholesterol testing is different from most tests in that it is not used to diagnose or monitor a disease but is used to estimate risk of developing a disease, specifically heart disease. High blood cholesterol has been associated with hardening of the arteries, heart disease and a raised risk of death from a heart attack. Cholesterol testing is considered a routine part of preventative health care.

Diabetes: Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Our bodies need insulin to convert food into energy. Many factors play roles in the cause of diabetes such as genetics and environmental factors. Our glucose testing involves a whole blood fasting/non-fasting method. Glucose levels should be in the following ranges:
Fasting: Below 100 mg/dl
Non-Fasting: Below 140 mg/dl
Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is a disease of low bone mass and the deterioration of bone tissue. It can lead to an increased risk of bone fractures, especially the hip, spine and wrist. Bone density tests can measure the density of bones in various areas of the body. Our test scans the load bearing bone of the heel.
Bone Density Result Ranges:
Low Risk: "T" Score of -1.0 or higher
Medium Risk: "T" Score of -1.0 to -2.5
High Risk: "T" Score of -2.5 or lower
Blood Pressure: Blood Pressure is the pressure of the blood against the walls of the arteries in your body. There are two forces that make up your blood pressure. One is made by the heart as it pumps blood (systolic) and the other is the force of the arteries as they resist blood flow (diastolic).
Blood Pressure Result Ranges:
Systolic Diastolic
Optimal less than 120 less than 80
Normal less than 130 less than 85
High 130 to 139 85 to 90
Grade 1 mild 140 to 159 90 to 99
Grade 2 moderate 160 to 179 100 to 109
Grade 3 severe more than 180 more than 110
